Why We Exist
Every year, thousands of young adults leave foster care without the support they need to succeed.
Los Angeles County is home to the nation’s largest foster care system. Each year, more than 1,000 young adults "age out" without a permanent family to guide them toward adulthood.
With histories of trauma and instability, these young adults often struggle to advance without the support they deserve.

How We Support Youth
We provide the tools, guidance, and opportunities young adults need to build independent, stable lives.
EDUCATION SUPPORT
Helping young adults succeed academically and reach their goals.
PAID-INTERNSHIPS
We offer paid short-term internships for current and former foster youth, focusing on skills like research, graphic design, writing, public speaking, work ethic, time management, and teamwork.
HOUSING STABILITY
SFLA works diligently with every young adult we serve to ensure they have access to safe, affordable, and stable housing.
EDUCATION
Over 90% of foster youth we work with have received - or are on track to receive - their High School diploma or equivalent
